Aptera Electric Cars By Geoff Cummings As gasoline prices increase, and the world is getting more and more worried about the effects of climate change, motor manufacturers are at last getting to grips with making cars that come with the `green` tag. In the UK companies like Japanese companies like Toyota and Nissan are developing more hybrid electric cars. And there are some small developers coming up with some new designs for all-electric vehicles. Aptera Motors in California has been developing an electric car by the name of the Aptera 2e. It only has 3 wheels, one at the rear, and two at the front. It costs a very tiny fraction of what gas propelled cars cost to run. It is much quieter, and to me looks very futuristic. Without question it`s green credentials are excellent. But, whether it will go down well with the American car buyers is yet to be seen. Aptera Motors say the car will be launched later on in 2009. Anyone who is interested can pre-order one by paying a deposit of $500, which comes off the price when the buyer signs up for the car once it has been launched. If the buyer backs out for any reason he will get his deposit refunded. Unusually, this car will initially only be available for purchase to California residents. I think that might be because being a small company Aptera Motors don`t have the facilities in other states to set up repair and service centers. The 2e prototype was driven around the streets of San Francisco a couple of months ago and it got a pretty good reception from bystanders. It`ll be interesting to see how well it does when it is finally made available for sale to the general public.
