Mothers Who Kill Their Kids Should Be Forcibly Sterilized
By Geoff Cummings
Is it just me imagining it, or has there really been a sharp increase in the number of cases of child cruelty just lately? It seems that every week we are seeing reports of parents abusing their children, starving, or beating them to death. In one recent, sickening case, a seven-year-old girl living in the UK was starved to death by her mother. The little girl, and her siblings, were fed dry bread and porridge, and had to eat on the floor using their fingers. If they dared to steal food the kids had to stand outside whatever the weather, beaten with a cane or made to overeat until they were sick. At the trial of the mother and her partner the court was told in graphic detail about how this little girl who died was frequently beaten with a stick, and had to sometimes sleep in a shed for being `rude.` The girl was emaciated at the time of her death. She weighed about two stones. The mother denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter, so did her partner. How killing your own child in these circumstances can be classed as anything other than murder is a mystery, but we all know sometimes the law is an ass. The social services, schools, police, doctors all come under the spotlight when this kind of thing happens. The word that comes to mind is `ineptitude` and it happens all too often. But, even when social services are fully involved problems aren`t always spotted and dealt with in time. In Colorado, USA, for instance, state legislators want to create an ombudsman office to oversee the child-protection services there. They are concerned about the fact that during 2007/08 there were 13 abuse-related deaths of children who were under the watchful eye of protective services. Included in those figures was a child of seven who starved to death. Without going in to the social problems and making an attempt to explain away what would make a mother (or indeed anyone not even related) inflict such cruelty on children I firmly believe that these parents should not be allowed to have any more children, ever. I`m sure that liberals will say this is an infringement of human rights, it is going too far etc, but I disagree. What these people do is against all the natural laws of what`s right and decent. Controversial as it may be, if a mother can mistreat her own children she should never be allowed to have any more. She ought to be forcibly sterilized. If a man is involved, as it was in the case above, then he too, whether he knew what was going on, or took actual part in the cruelty, should be made to have a vasectomy. Forget the rights of the adults, let`s consider the rights of those defenceless children who had a `right` to life, but had that snuffed out by the very ones they should have been able to depend upon for protection on into adulthood. Why allow someone to go to jail, come out, and have more children who they can again mistreat, or worse, kill? Take away their ability to have any more children and they will have a constant reminder of how they betrayed their children and gave up any right to be parents again, ever.

Hi, odls, This is another example of people being too scared to report abuse because the perpetrators were black. This was not only neighbours being scared but also the police, education authority and social services. This couple HAD A HISTORY of starving and ill-treating children going back several years so there should have been sanctions in place already to save other victims. Until the UK and other countries start to be honest and chuck all this political (in)correctness into the trash where it belongs, nothing will change. People will continue to withhold vital reports for fear of being prosecuted themselves. Maybe I'm a reactionary but anybody who can deliberately starve a child to death (it's a premeditated crime that takes months to commit) does not deserve to live.

Yes, PC has gone mad and I`m sure inhibits the proper functioning of agencies such as child protection. How these cruel acts can be called anything other than murder (and punished accordingly) is beyond me.

In my opinion, child killers should never get out of jail because they should not be breathing. I'm a firm believer in capital punishment for murderers and child killers. As to there being more such brutality, neglect and abuse than before, I have noticed this, too. I think we hear more about it than we used to, that is for sure -- and the prevalence of the use of harder drugs such as methamphetines are a major culprit. While living in Tucson, there were two widely publicized cases of parents killing their kids. One was a mother and one was a father. The most horrible thing about both cases was that in both cases, protective services WERE aware of abuse and in the case were "daddy" killed his son and daughter, the MOTHER had had the police over there trying to get her kids back! She had custody and she had the papers to prove it, but the cops refused to take the kids out by force. He abused them both for several weeks before beating them to death -- the girl, he left in a storage bin in a storage unit. They have never found the boy -- at least they hadn't when I left. Meth can turn a placid person into a violent person and a violent person into a full-blown monster. In the case of the mother killing her son, she was a known meth user and had actually threatened to kill him more than once -- she had even told protective services to take him. Both killer parents should have been put to death, but there is so much wrong with the system... Protective Services goes from one extreme to the other -- taking kids from loving parents and neglecting the kids who need them. Then, there is the matter of drugs. My opinion? Stop looking for the marijuana and fight harder against meth and crack. This tendency to treat it like it is all the same is ridicilous. I'd much rather stumble across a stoner looking for a hamburger than a meth head looking for a score.

There was a recent case of about four youths who went into a corner store, beat the elderly Indian storekeeper to death, and got away with some cigs and a small amount of money. Whether they were on drugs or not, to me they should get the death penalty. And the same goes for parents who can beat, starve their children to death, or in any other manner murder them. If not the death penalty, at least give them a genuine life sentence, not letting them out after just a few years to do it all over again.
Emotionally, I think many of us would agree. Some of us would even like to go further. But unfortunately, it's a fantasy in this country.

We seem to be getting softer on crime.
Thank you for sharing this very powerful intel, Geoff. We're not going stop child abuse, but I'm with you, make certain that the offenders don't have any more chances to offend. Take away any other children in their house forever. Best to you. Frederick

Thanks Frederick. Yes, it astonishes me that so often the `other` children get left with the abusive parents. If it`s happened once...
