Why SEO Is Important
By Geoff Cummings
With literally billions of sites out there on the Internet getting your site noticed is a huge job. Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a term widely used today by many e-commerce sites. To get your site seen you have to get it noticed by the likes of Google, Yahoo, and MSN, otherwise you`ll get buried among the `no hopers.` It all boils down to this; Internet users often look at only the ten top search results in the first page. Making it to the first page therefore is vital in the process of SEO. And the higher your site is up the first page the greater the likelihood it`ll get clicked on. If your`s is a commercial site which is used for selling, the more clicks, and hopefully the more sales you`ll get. Search engine optimization is a work constantly in progress. Let things slide and you`ll soon find your site in freefall. SEO is about utilizing tools and methods in making your site top ranking in the results of search engines. Getting yourself in the first page and better yet in the top half of the page will ensure that your site will generate public awareness of your site`s existence thus generating more traffic. Traffic is proportionate to the visibility of your site. You`ll need to gather a lot of information about the keyword phrases that are popular in regards to your site`s theme. Use meta tags in the Title and Description so that Search Engines can easily pick your site up. Some now believe that the keyword meta tag is unimportant, so follow your individual preference on whether to use it or not. I personally think that the title and description tags are vital, and just wouldn`t omit them from my sites. There are certain rules and guidelines to be followed with making your site`s content conducive to search engine optimization. Sometimes it`s necessary to rewrite parts of your site, change things around, use various colors, graphics etc. One thing to remember - don`t spam keywords! Search Engines take a dim view of keyword spammers, and it could even get your site removed from the engine. Backlinks are very important to get a site noticed by the Search Engines. They like it when other topic related sites link to yours. It shows your site is well liked by others, and that helps gets you a good PR (Google`s Page Ranking). If you have to use reciprocal links so be it, but try to get others to link to you without you having to link to them if possible. Laerning about SEO takes time. You can pay someone else to do it for you, but I think the best way is to learn for yourself. It makes the whole experience worthwhile, and when you see your site up at the top of the Search Engines it can be very rewarding. |
